broken-gurl's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- waves of grace are washing over me Alright, so yesterday I posted absolutely HYSTERICAL just before I went to the ferry terminal to pick up Shara (teleri) so she could come stay at my house (again :P ) for awhile. So we came home, played hours of crazy stupid video games, forgot to take our medications... yeah... oops... & ended up awake & manicly hyper at about 2 in the morning. This is when we realized we had nowhere to sleep. Well in truth we had many places to sleep, but at 2 in the morning we weren't really thinking rationally. And then I came up with the brilliantly wonderful idea of sleeping in the backyard. We decided to build a "tent" between two trees in my yard, using a tarp, two bungee cords, & four rather odd huge nails. Here is the tent.
So we went to bed (by the time we got the tent made, sleeping bags found, pillows acquired, warm clothes to wear, etc, etc, it was about 3:45 am). Then we realized that my dad would be getting up at 4:00 to go to work so we decided to stay up & wait for him to see how he'd react to the mutilated tarp & stakes in his back lawn. Just as we were settling in, we heard my dad get up & shower, (or as the running joke was, take a really loud piss... yeah Shara was feeling a bit blonde), & we were just waiting for him to come downstairs & see us. Well, he never did. At least, never into the kitchen where we could see him & he could see us. I guess he saw that the upstairs bedrooms were empty so he thought we crashed on the couches & didn't want to wake us. He goes off to work & we start to doze off. All the sudden we here this funny noise - like rain - well it was the garden sprinklers in the front yard. No big deal, we thought, it was just the day to water the garden. The lawn sprinklers don't come on on the same day as the garden ones. We FINALLY fall asleep when we are so rudely awakened by an icy blast of water coming from the sprinkler that popped up DIRECTLY at the entrance to our tent - that is, RIGHT BY OUR HEADS. And I quote: "SARA... BIG PROBLEM!!!" "*groans* just move back & tuck yourself in your sleeping bag... it'll go away" "IT'S NOT WATERPROOF!!!" "oh... mine is" I turn around to hide from the water soaking my pillow and sit up a little - getting blasted in the face by a nice cold jet of water. Yay. Note that by this time it is almost 4:45 and we haven't slept in days. We dash out of our tent, still in our sleeping bags (hopping around like crazy potatoes) and attempt to get back inside. Well, apparently there was a sprinkler OUTSIDE the tent too. As soon as the wall of safety was passed, our backs were soaked by the offending sprinkler. Shara takes the soaked sleeping bags to hang in the garage to dry, as I so brilliantly decide to go rescue Shara's sweatshirt from in the tent - the only thing we left in there. I made it to the tent without even getting so much as a drop on me, but the second I crawled under the side, that wonderful sprinkler caught me in the face. Again. So I grab the clothes & make a mad dash out... forgetting about the sprinkler behind me. Needless to say, I won't be camping out in a white tshirt anytime soon. We decided to sleep on the couches instead. But by this time, we had been so wonderfully jolted awake by the frigid water, we were in no mood to sleep. So what did we do? Played MORE video games. Actually, we played Pokemon Snap. Yes, yes, I know. Eventually we started to get tired - looked out the window & realized the sun was rising - so we went upstairs and crawled into the BIG, SOFT guest bed. Why we didn't do that in the first place is beyond me. But hey, it was nice outside until... well... yeah. Needless to say, it didn't take long for us to pass out. We wake up rather early (about 6:45 I guess) and came back downstairs to find my dad's girlfriend getting ready for work. Soon were we to learn that in fact they HAD heard us setting the tent up at 2 in the morning, and DID know that the sprinklers were coming on. Oh, my family leaves much to be desired sometimes. We felt so crappy & sick so we went back to bed, & got up at 10:30, finally feeling rested & less nauseous. (Lack of sleep + too much food = HELL). Anyway, here we are this morning... dry, rested, & chipper (?) as ever. Heh.
(I'm on the left & Shara's on the right) Oh, thought I should mention... just as I was crawling in to bed last night, I had a horrible thought - SPRINKLERS. I couldn't remember which day the lawn was watered on. All I knew was that it happened very early in the morning, about 4:30. We went inside to the sprinkler panel to check which day it was set for, & spent about 15 minutes staring at the damn thing trying to figure out what was what. The dial was pointed to "TODAY" and about 2 mm from "CURRENT TIME" but me being the smart blonde that I am, I thought it was turned off. Hah. Right. It was fun, if not insanely stupid & a litttttle bit frustrating. Anyway, hope you had a few laughs at us if you were bored enough to read our whole story!
